Is the oldest town in the Black Hills of South Dakota and Wyoming. In July, 1874, General George Armstrong Custer led his famous expedition of 1,000 men, including a military band, 2,000 animals, and 110 wagons into the Black Hills to investigate rumors of gold, camping on French Creek near the present city of Custer.
